What Chimney.Services checks, what it doesn't, and who pays for it
The chimney trade runs on things a homeowner can't see. This site exists to show its work.
How is every fact labeled?
Every fact block carries one of three labels, and the label never changes without the evidence changing:
- Public record — from a statute, regulation, government registry or official form. Everything on the laws site is public record, with the date we last looked.
- Reported by business — what a company tells us about itself. We show it, labeled, and don't vouch for it.
- Verified by Chimney.Services — something we independently checked, with the date and method.
Sources carry an evidence class: GOV for statute text, regulators and registries; DOC for official PDFs and adopted code text; REF for news, associations and law-firm summaries. A REF source can support a claim but never proves one on its own.
What do we verify on the laws pages?
- Each state file is researched against primary sources, then re-checked in a separate verification pass that works through every open question and spot-checks the licensing, seller-disclosure and carbon monoxide claims.
- Every state page shows its research date, its verification date, and any caveats the verification pass left open.
- Pages whose verification found a load-bearing problem stay online, marked "Under review," and are hidden from search engines until fixed.
- The one-word short answers on each state page are derived mechanically from the research; where the text doesn't support one word, the answer reads SEE SECTION.
What don't we check?
- We don't give legal advice, and nothing here replaces a lawyer licensed in your state.
- We don't track every city and county rule; where local rules matter, the page says so and names the places our research found.
- We don't check any individual contractor on these pages — not identity, background, work quality, insurance, or certifications.
- We don't guarantee a law hasn't changed since the date shown.
Chimney.Services is not a licensing body, certifying body, background screener, or consumer reporting agency. Information only — not legal or professional advice.
Who pays for this?
No one who is named on it. We take no fee from any certification body, guild, or contractor, and are not paid to mention anyone named. There are no ads, no sponsored mentions, and no one can pay to appear on or be left off a page.
Who is behind it?
Chimney.Services is a project of Fully EQPD. It is researched and maintained independently of any chimney company, certification body or contractor.
Where a detail isn't independently verified, we'll always say so.
